GNU Tar option of the day

       --exclude-vcs
              exclude version control system directories

And you no longer need to add CVS/, .svn/, .git/... to the exclude list (.cvsignore and .gitignore will also be excluded). That's nice when switching VCS.

This option was added to GNU Tar in version 1.19 released on 2007-10-10.

Pascal! Awesome... I have numerous manual --excludes all over the place.... wish I'd known about this option before!!!
