Cooker Weekly News, issue 22 ( 2005-05-07 to 2005-05-25 ) Welcome to the 22nd issue of the Cooker Weekly News. Once again, this issue is late, so sorry if you have been waiting on it ( as I have read on some linux news website ). ___________________________________ * FHS and current system layout Claudio Matsuoka reviewed the current layout of a cooker system [1], and wondered why the lsb package was not installed by default [2]. However, the question of /srv and /media was still undecided, as some change are as / naming space pollution [3], and the mounting of foreign filesystem is not clear [4]. The new and the old version of enlightenment can be installed side by side [6]. If you want to help, the menus are not yet adapted to our menu scheme, and entrance is not yet integrated, and there is some problem with pam [7] [8]. As Frederic reminded, the version of automake to use can be found in the file Makefile.in [11]. Current proposal is that automake will always be the latest stable version, no unversionned call to autotool should be added to spec, and packages are forked when automake is no longer compatible [12]. This can be useful to provides customised macro, and some macros were added to ease the packaging of such configuration files. [14] : http://archives.mandrivalinux.com/cooker/2005-05/msg00688.php ___________________________________ * Python search path on x86_64 Gaetan Lehmann tried to use a noarch package from i586 mirror on a x64_64 system, however, due to different path on these architecture, this doesn't work [15]. Various solutions were presented, like tagging python as arch dependant [16], or changing $PYTHONPATH [17]. Gaetan proposed also to use different directory for compiled module and noarch module, with a fedora patch [18]. Now, the next step is to clean the list of users, so John asked everyone to review the current list [20]. Guillaume Rousse also reworked the wiki to have a clearer organisation [21].
